Ottawa Chapter/Section d’Ottawa : 2022 Annual Report

Ottawa Chapter/Section d’Ottawa Executive and Committees Special 2022 Annual Report

With most Pandemic restrictions lifted in 2022, the World started slowly to come out of its collective cocoon. Nevertheless, this didn’t stop groups like ours from continuing to be careful. Therefore, Ottawa Chapter/Section d’Ottawa refrained from in-person activities and remained in the virtual world.

On March 3, 2022, a small number of members gathered on Zoom for our Special Chapter Meeting. Again, without a quorum or a complete slate of Executive, our only option was to present a “joint” Chapter Annual Report along with our 2021 Financial Statement. Furthermore, since there was no new Executive put in place that evening, our administration team remained status quo. As such, Sharon Doyle was acclaimed in the Secretary position and Linda Landreville was acclaimed as Treasurer. Vincent Elit was appointed to continue his role as Archivist.

To keep Ottawa Chapter/Section d’Ottawa on the Association’s radar in 2022, Linda Landreville volunteered to represent the interests of the Chapter at the OALT/ABO Board of Directors. Throughout 2022, Linda logged into six Zoom meetings as well as the 2021 OALT/ABO Annual General Meeting which took place virtually on Saturday, May 14, 2022.

It is exciting to note that in 2023 and in 2024 the Ontario Association of Library Technicians/Association des bibliotechniciens de l’Ontario (OALT/ABO) is celebrating some extraordinary Anniversaries.

In 2023, OALT/ABO marks its 50th Anniversary. In the Winter of 1973, a team of “pioneers” held our inaugural meeting. The following year in October 1974, we convened our first ever Conference and Meeting in Toronto. During the months prior, what we called The Ottawa Regional Branch/Section régionale d’Ottawa was formed and was certified at the Conference – along with other Branches who were established at that time. This makes 2024 extra special – we hope. Depending on the interest we can muster in the months to come, Ottawa, which by the way is currently the only continuously active Chapter, will be able to celebrate its 50th Anniversary.

Collaboration has kept us going since 1974. However, it goes without saying that our Chapter will never evolve without having people come together who share the vision that Ottawa Chapter/Section d’Ottawa is still useful and relevant. This said, we invite fellow Library and Information Technicians who are enthusiastic and interested in personal growth to join the Team.

Meanwhile, we need to thank Sharon Doyle, Vincent Elit and Linda Landreville for sitting behind the scenes while we wait for Ottawa Chapter/Section d’Ottawa to rebuild.

Submitted jointly by the Executive and Committees of Ottawa Chapter/Section d’Ottawa
